BULLETIN 3

The proposed weekend of 3 – 4th May 2025 for the MCAA’s Festival in Adelaide at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre (AEC) has had to be foregone due to factors outside the control of the MCAA.

The AEC received a booking request from a larger organization for all spaces at the AEC for the whole weekend and expecting to attract audiences of 4,000+ on both days.

The Adelaide Organising Committee (members of the Metropolitan Male Choir of South Australia) have done a fantastic job of liaising with the staff at the AEC who have subsequently penciled in the following weekends of 17-18 May 2025 and 24-25 May 2025 to allow the MCAA to decide on which alternate weekend to book.

I realise that some choirs have closed down for the year. This eventuality has come upon us suddenly. I ask all Management Committees of all intending participant member choirs to consider their positions as best they can regarding the viability of their participation on either of the alternate weekends.

Please RSVP to Secretary Brian Buckley at bbuckley@bigpond.com  by close of business Friday, 16th February 2024 as to your choir’s commitments on either or both weekends 17-18 May 2025 and 24-25 May 2025.

If your choir has no commitments on these weekends at this stage, you may wish to state a preference or indicate that either would suit.

Obviously, if your choir has no commitments, I ask that you leave both weekends free at this stage for our 2025 MCAA Festival until the MCAA Committee can decide early in 2024 about a revised date.

Thanking you all in anticipation of your understanding and cooperation.

I wish all choristers a wonderful festive and holiday season. May 2024 be good for us all.

Regards

NEIL FLEMING

President

REMINDER BRITISH AND IRISH LIONS RUGBY TOUR 2025

The MCAA Committee has previously promoted the British and Irish Lions Rugby Tour to Australia in 2025 together with the usual touring massed male choirs from the UK. Whilst not a MCAA event, several member choirs have participated with the accompanying touring choirs in the past and we are using our membership list to offer the opportunity to choirs or individual choristers to participate in any of the capital city venues that will be scheduled. It will be up to each member choir or individual chorister to express interest directly to Mark Burrows’ business through the website MARK@MSBMUSICWORLDWIDE.TOURS

Latest information is that Mark Burrows is attempting to stage massed male choral concerts in Perth, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane between late July into early August 2025 whilst following the Lions Rugby games.

Three MCAA member choirs have so far indicated they wish to participate. An attraction is to participate in the Sydney Opera House.

This will be the final reminder from the MCAA about this opportunity. Of course, an important consideration for the MCAA is that member choirs will commit firstly to the MCAA Festival in Adelaide in May 2025 and then, if they so decide, to the Lions massed choirs’ concert in whichever city they choose later in July-August 2025. Forward planning is vital in this respect because both concerts are predicated on performing the respective repertoires without book
